Short version: Macaroom looks at your files on your Mac and keeps what it finds on your Mac.

The app

Macaroom reads file and folder names, sizes and dates to measure storage. It doesn't open or read what's inside your files.
Scan history and the list of items it moved to the Trash are saved in ~/Library/Application Support/Macaroom. Nothing is uploaded.
There's no account, no analytics and no AI service.
The app talks to getmacaroom.com for two things. Once a day it checks for updates. When you activate, and then about once a week while you're online, it checks your license by sending your license key, a random ID Macaroom made up for this Mac, and the app version. Like any web request, these share your IP address with our host, Cloudflare. Nothing about your files is ever sent.
Notifications, if you turn them on, are created on your Mac.
A scan report is only exported when you choose to save one.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It doesn't use cookies or track you across sites.

Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your card number.
Stripe shares your name, email, country and purchase details with us, which we use to send receipts and handle refunds.
We keep your email, your license key, and the random IDs of the Macs that activated it, so we can email your key, get it back to you if you lose it, and switch it off if the purchase is refunded.
License emails are sent through Resend.

If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can help you. We don't send marketing email.

We don't sell or share your information with anyone, apart from the services above that we need to run Macaroom.
