Lost your download, setting up a new Mac, or stuck on something? Start here.

Install

• Open Macaroom.dmg from your Downloads folder.
• Drag Macaroom into Applications.
• Open Macaroom from Applications. It's signed and notarised by Apple, so it opens without warnings.

Activate

Open Macaroom, click Activate in the top bar and paste the license key from your email. The same key works on all your Macs, up to 10. Activating needs an internet connection once. After that Macaroom works offline for as long as you like. When you're online it quietly re-checks the license about once a week; being offline never switches it off, only a refund does.

Full Disk Access

Without it, macOS asks about protected folders one at a time, and some storage stays hidden. With it, Macaroom still only reads file names, sizes and dates.

• Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access.
• Switch on Macaroom. If it isn't listed, click + and choose it from Applications.
• Go back to Macaroom. The scan starts on its own.

Updates

Macaroom checks for updates once a day. When one is ready, a small download button appears next to Settings. You can also choose Macaroom › Check for Updates…. See what changed in the changelog.

Can't see the menu bar icon?

On MacBooks with a notch, macOS hides menu bar icons that don't fit. Hold ⌘ and drag the Macaroom icon closer to the clock, or remove a few other icons.

Uninstall

Quit Macaroom and drag it from Applications to the Trash. Its saved scans live in ~/Library/Application Support/Macaroom if you want to remove those too.
