DaisyDisk alternative: Macaroom vs DaisyDisk
DaisyDisk is a great app, and we'd recommend it for some people. Here's an honest look at where each one is the better choice.
The one-line difference
DaisyDisk shows you where your space went. Macaroom tells you what it is and whether it's safe to delete.
Side by side
| DaisyDisk | Macaroom | |
|---|---|---|
| How it shows storage | An interactive sunburst map of folders | Named sources: "Xcode build data", "iPhone backups", "Leftovers from deleted apps"… |
| Explains what each item is | No, you read folder names | Yes, with what removing it would do |
| Says what's safe to clear | Protects system files, and the rest is your call | Labels every item: rebuildable, yours, manage in its app, or owned by macOS |
| Old project build folders (node_modules, DerivedData…) | Shown as folders | Found and grouped, with untouched projects flagged |
| Removing files | Deletes what you collect | Moves to the Trash, with Restore |
| What changed since last week, low-space warnings, menu bar | No | Yes |
| External, network and cloud drives | Yes | No, your Mac's own storage only |
| Scan speed on very large disks | Very fast | Fast: 2.8 million files in about 25 seconds on our Mac |
| Languages | 14 | English |
| Free trial | Yes | 7-day refund instead |
| Price | $9.99 one-time | One-time, see current price |
| macOS | Works on older macOS versions too | macOS 14 or later |

Choose Macaroom if…
- you keep asking "what even is System Data?"

- you're a developer with old Xcode, simulator and node_modules clutter
- you want a heads-up before your Mac runs out of space

See it on your own Mac
Macaroom scans your Mac, names what each chunk of storage is, and marks what's safe to clear. Anything you remove goes to the Trash, so you can put it back.
